Gutter Works Jim Beam Winners

Leading up to the Jim Beam NSA C Qualifier in Mt. Juliet TN, Coach Cobbie Harrison had been in the hospital receiving blood for a clotting complication that has been plaguing him over the past few months. A reprieve let him out of hospital just in time for him to coach and enjoy what was one his most memorable weekends on the softball diamonds in quite some time.
Skipper Harrison who has coached the legendary Hit Men of Steeles to national championships as well as other super softball giants of the past believes the two days in Mt. Juliet just last weekend were as rewarding as any he had coached. "It was kind of a get well card in person" remarked the jubilant winner after his mens Gutterworks team made an 'unbelievable' run through the Jim Beam losers bracket.
Gutterworks lost their 2nd game before their improbable run to the championship which included six straight victories over good squads like RBI, Hughes Carpet, Pound the Mound, Mudcats, and Outkast a couple of times in the double-finals.
The wins over Outkast a local Nashville C team was especially gratifying because Cobbie had coached a couple of those guys in the past--the speedy Ron Lytle and Drew Pinkley. "Those guys are good friends but there is a little extra umph when you get to beat your old mates" said Harrison.
Gutterworks with players from Kentucky and Tennessee broke a few hearts and records along the losers bracket road including scoring 12 or more runs in the top of the 1st in their final 6 games and run-ruling each opponent, including Outkast the final two games 29-12 and 39-17.
Leading Gutterworks  was offensive player of the tournament Landon Helms who was 25-29 with 5 homers. On the defensive side Travis Truitt of Jackson, KY was the Gold Glove grabber from SS.  Truitt, Ace Pierman (2B), and Corey Cinnamon (middle) turned double digit double plays for the weekend. MVP was Johnny Leep from Northern KY who threw strikes all weekend and hit .650 as an added bonus.
Jason 'Meat' Betts, Billy Dennis, and Matt Singleton were 3 additional offensive weapons hitting over .750 and 3rd baseman Burgess from last years C and R Cable pitched in at .650.
The Jim Beam victory assures Gutterworks a trip to the NSA C Nationals held September 16 -18 in Muncie IN. Cobbie wanted to thank everyone who helped run the tournament plus wanted to give a plug to his Easton bat and equipment sponsorship.
